Tire Pressure

As you know, your tires are responsible for supporting the weight of your vehicle, so you’ll want to keep them in excellent condition. You can use a tire pressure gauge to regularly check the pressure. It’s a good idea to do this at least once a week when performing ATV maintenance or UTV maintenance checks. Air up your vehicle’s tires to the manufacturer’s recommended psi level. You’ll also want to inspect the tires for uneven wear, bald spots, or embedded objects. Confirm there is enough tread depth and that there is no damage to the sidewalls. If you spot any issues, it’s important to address them right away.

Driveline

When handling UTV and ATV maintenance, you should always check on the driveline. If it malfunctions, you won’t go very far. The driveline transfers power from the engine to the wheels, so it’s a pretty important component. Even if your engine is in good shape, it won’t make up for a malfunctioning driveline. Change the Oil

One of the best things you can do for your vehicle is to keep up with oil changes. You can check that status of your oil by removing the dipstick, wiping it off, reinserting it, and removing it once more. Check both the color and the location of the oil on the dipstick. If it’s opaque or thick and sludgy, then you’ll want to change the oil. You also need to check and see where the oil falls on the dipstick. If it’s not where it should be, you’ll need to add more oil.

Check the Filters

When performing ATV and UTV maintenance, don’t forget to check the filters. The filters are designed to keep your fluids in good condition and clear of debris. First, the oil filter should be changed each time you change the oil. Next is the fuel filter, which is located under the fuel tank. This one doesn’t need to be replaced quite as often, but you should still check on it every so often to make sure it’s not clogged. Finally, the air filter keeps dust and debris out of the engine’s combustion, which is where dirt can do some serious damage. Change the air filter every couple of months. With that in mind, the more often you ride, the more often you’ll need to change the air filter.
